SAT (Scoring)
Raw Score
A "raw" score is computed by adding the number of correct problems and then subtracting from this sum the product of 0.25 times the number of incorrect problems. This "raw" score is calculated for each of the three subject areas. Then the "raw" score is converted to a score scaled from 200 to 800.
Score Report
The Score Report contains 5 scores:
-- Critical Reading (200-800)
-- Math (200-800)
-- Writing Skills (200-800)
+ Multiple Choice (20-80)
+ Essay (2-12)
Composite Score
Many people will talk of their Composite Score which is a sum of the 3 Subject Area scores. If a test taker received a Critical Reading score of 640, a Math score of 730, and a Writing Skills score of 700, then the Composite Score will equal 2070 (640+730+700 = 2070). The Composite Score is on a scale of 600 to 2400. This Composite Score replaces the old SAT's Composite Score which ranged from 400 to 1600.
