SAT (Preparation)

All available evidence indicates that preparation matters for the SAT.

SAT Preparation takes one of 3 main forms:

1. Self-Preparation or Self-Education

     -- Lowest Cost
     -- Requires a self-directed student
-- Prep. books vary widely in quality
(We can help you select Prep. books)

2. Class-based Preparation
     -- Cheaper than tutoring
-- More expensive than buying a couple of prep books
-- Some students learn well in a class
+ Others will "hide" in class and get very little from it
-- Instructors or Classes may vary widely in terms of quality

3. Individual Preparation (Tutoring)
     -- Most expensive
+ Rates are usually between $65 and $115 per hour
     -- Flexible
+ Most tutors will have flexible schedules
+ Most tutors will travel to a student's residence
     -- Exclusive
+ The best tutors will only be able to prepare at most
20 to 25 students for any test administration
+ Generally speaking, only the best teachers will be able
to command the high rates for tutoring

NOTE: CEEAE is developing a certification program for tutors

It should be available by the end of Q2 in 2006
