PSAT (Pre-SAT)
Each question on the PSAT is scored the same:
- Correct = +1 point
- Omit = 0 points
- Incorrect = -1/4th point
Based on the above, you should not blindly guess on questions on the PSAT
The questions in each subject area are graded and given a raw score based on the above scoring method. Then this raw score is converted to another score depending on how all other test takers did on the exam. The resulting score is called a scaled score.
Scaled scores are provided for each of the Subject Areas
Each Subject Area score ranges from 20 to 80
Selection Index is the sum of the 3 Subject Area scores
- Selection Index=Critical Reading + Math + Writing Skills
- Ranges from 60 to 240
Sample PSAT Score Report:
| Critical Reading | 64 |
|
| Math | 70 |
|
| Writing Skills | 73 |
|
| Selection Index | 207 |
The score report also provides percentile scores. Percentile scores are provided for each of the 3 Subject Areas. These scores indicate what percentage of test takers scored lower than you on the PSAT in each of the subject areas.
